Assessments
Anchor Therapy Services prides itself on being an evidence-based practice. Assessment typically occurs over one or two sessions and methods vary based on the child’s age, developmental level and the concerns at hand. Methods may include a combination of formal and assessments as well as observations of the child at home or at school/kinder. This allows us to ascertain your child’s current skills and what the next steps are for appropriate intervention.
We provide the following types of assessments:
- Speech sound and Motor speech
- Language - Comprehension and Expressive language
- Social communication differences
- Phonological Awareness
- Sensory Profile
- Fine and Gross motor development
- School Readiness

Therapy
Therapy goals arise from the assessment findings and in consultation with you, to determine the most important goals for your child and family. We will discuss with you the therapy plan we would recommend to help your child meet their goals and ensure that goals are realistic and achievable. Therapy frequency will be determined in consultation with you and will be in line with your child’s needs.
Our sessions aim to be fun and exciting so the child feels that therapy is a play session. This engenders the child’s intrinsic motivation to join in and work towards their goals. Children are encouraged and supported to explore their own learning styles, sensory preferences and regulation needs, allowing them to develop and practice self-advocacy skills in a safe and respectful environment.
We aim to provide supports in the child's natural learning environments. This may include visits at home as well as at childcare or kinder during the early years or at school for older children. Collaboration with teachers and the child's support group is central in our school, kinder and childcare based sessions. At home, parents are strongly encouraged to be active partners in therapy sessions, giving you the chance to practice your own skills at facilitating the therapy techniques. This will assist in practice occurring naturally within the home environment, resulting in faster gains.
